Put up another picture gallery here: Winter Gallery.

I thought to take some more, but it’s actually been nice the past few days. I’ll work on getting it updated. Also, blog’s more than a year old.

Alright, I’m all done with this school term and got a few extra hours to myself. I said I was going to put some pictures up, but I didn’t have a page or gallery to work with. My hosting provider has some ready-to-install scripts and stuff, one of which being the Coppermine gallery.

While I’m sure it works great, it seems like a lot more than I need. I just want to put a few pictures up here and there. Then I remembered a cool feature of F-Spot that exports galleries to static web pages. Looks like you can export to different web accounts like Flickr or Picasa, to different PHP galleries, or a static site that you just FTP over and you’re done.

You can see the result here: Ohio LinuxFest 2006 Gallery. Makes thumbnails, medium quality with captions, links to the full-size image, and a simple navigation system.

I wasn’t really into F-Spot, as it seemed to rely heavily on tagging your images. I keep a very organized directory tree and am far too lazy to tag everything I’ve got, so it never really appealed to me.

F-Spot has a cool time-line feature to browse photos, but it makes it less useful when you don’t set the camera’s time and date before going through a set of photos. I haven’t found a way to edit the meta data, but I can’t imagine it’s that hard. The tagging came in handy to group the photos together, with just a couple clicks more to turn it into a standalone gallery.

Slick.
