I’ve had this song in my head the last few days. Absolutely beautiful, I wish I could do it justice. I can play most of the song, but I need to work on my bend release technique and timing for the solo. Otherwise, you would do well to seek out the original version.

Had the song “When the Lights Go Out” by The Black Keys in my head all day. Great song and easy to play, but not very interesting without the other instruments.

This one was good practice. Getting better at moving around quickly on the fretboard and quick hammer-n-pulls sound better. Got it pretty good with one take. Not the first take, mind you, but I didn’t do any editing besides noise removal.

Otherwise still just trying to memorize chords and move swiftly between them. Practicing the blues scale to hopefully get my fourth finger to be useful. Playing around with different tunings, like dropped D to practice Tool’s “No Quarter” (alright, it’s a cover, but I like theirs better than Led Zeppelin’s).

Got rid of a lot of noise, but there’s still a little fuzz here and there. Still play too stiffly. Had about 3 minutes of recording and this was the best I had. Even did it over as I over-amped the entire thing by having volume knobs set to 10. Practice makes perfect.

I had grown tired of watching my pitiful guitar collect dust. Knew it was missing some strings, but I found that I had a pack so I restrung it. I haven’t tuned a guitar in years. Found low E, but it got worse from there. Found a cable to plug into my sound card and downloaded the Free Music Instrument Tuner from the Ubuntu repositories (apt-get install fmit).

After learning a couple easy songs, I looked around for some recording software. I basically just wanted to end up with a decent quality MP3. As much hype as it was getting in the beginning, Jokosher just didn’t work for me. Tried everything and it just couldn’t pick up a source. I found that Audacity worked well, even if working with the program can be a pain. Crashed on me a couple times and I have to have no playback going when it’s started, otherwise the program doesn’t recognize any output.

I made a couple recordings, but they are quite noisy as it’s a sloppy setup. There’s no stereo. I know I can play these songs smoother, but I got nervous during the recording and would just be happy I got the notes right. Timing is way off and made worse by the sloppy editing. Just a test.
